Addy asked:
around how many months will my german shepherd start to urintae with his leg up... his currently 9 weeks old.
If you own a Chow Chow or if you're thinking about getting one, then this may be the most important letter you'll ever read...

He might not if he doesn’t see any other dogs do it first.
Usually around 1 year old
give him some time, some dogs don’t figure it out till up to a year of age or so. be warned though…some male dogs just prefer to squat. he may never decide to lift his leg to ***.
It varies hugely, around four months you will start to notice it, by six months he should have the hang of it. Some dogs are earlier, though, others later – I’d say you still have a while to wait!
normally after they r at least 7 months old, and if so he might not until he see’s another dog do it, monkey see monkey do.
Handyman is correct. This is a learned behavior.
my boy never did! i desexed him at 6 months old and he has always bent down to pee, he did lift his leg once but never again. if you have a female dog or other males around he will lift his leg.
it may take a few months or up to a year or he may never lift his leg is he around other dogs seeing them do it? 9 weeks is too young to worry about it yet give it a few months before u start asking that
I’m not sure exactly how long it takes. I know every dog is different but it will happen. I use to wonder the same thing. Its like a proud papa waiting for there son to show his man hood. Dont worry it happen. Then you have to deal with him tagging everything in the house.
Any age, some male dogs never do it while some FEMALES do. My dog doesn’t simply because he’s lazy(unless he’s marking his “territory”).
some don’t lift their legs or can lift it at any age… but usually isn’t at n average of 6-9 months old….
these people are right. i have a female shep and she had a litter, we kept one, a boy you can guess and he didn’t lift his leg for about 9 months till he kept seeing other males do it and was smelling how high up on the bushes were marked with urine at our dog park.
Not all dogs do this cause they lack the coordination to do it…If it does not happen by a year than it does not matter
It varies hugely. My dog figured it out when he was about seven months old.
